Remind Me

Lyrics

(verse 1)

Down on my knees again
I’m feeling worn, I’m feeling thin
I’ve tried to define myself
But it’s fleeting from me now

My world hangs upon a string
It doesn’t seem to mean anything
And all that I ever was
Simply is not there

(pre-chorus)

As I walk away, I feel you calling
And I want to stay but I can’t stop falling
’cause what you say is…

(chorus)

Right
Everything that we ever did before was
Real
So don’t think you know how I feel
It’s Wrong
To feel this sad when you are gone
So steal back
All the things I took from you in the past

(verse 2)

Words that used to delight
Have changed to fear, they’ve changed to fright
This once familiar place
No longer knows my name

(pre-chorus)

As I walk away, I feel you calling
And I want to stay but I can’t stop falling
’cause what you say is…

(chorus)

Right
Everything that we ever did before was
Real
So don’t think you know how I feel
It’s Wrong
To feel this sad when you are gone
So steal back
All the things I took from you in the past

(bridge)

So look at where our paths have brought us now
To a place without a sound, a smell or touch
To remind me
You’re behind me

Story

Remind Me” is one of my favourite songs to perform. Not only do I love playing it but I become deeply invested in the emotion behind the song. This track similarly to “It’s the Waiting that’s Killing Me,” talks about the loneliness and desperation from trying to achieve results but essentially going nowhere. It also carries a strong nostalgic factor where old ideals, behaviours and ways of thinking no longer satisfy, bring relief or achieve progress. It explores the concept of losing one’s identity and then realizing that it was never really there to begin with. This song also involves the emotion of a rapidly changing relationship where two companions had shared an immensely close friendship and its dysfunction had led to its necessary disconnection if it were to ever truly last. “Remind Me” is hidden with a deep anguish over losing a closeness with the only person you’ve ever felt close to and the only thing you ever felt a part of. It is a reflection of hopelessness, apathy and the pain of loneliness on an immense level. The song ends as it began in a depressing manner with the bridge only reaffirming the loss of companionship and brokenness from a life yielding nothing worth holding on to.
